Medicare CPAP Supply Schedule

Medicare CPAP supply coverage is not just a shopping calendar. Accessories must remain medically necessary and connected to covered PAP therapy. This page summarizes the planning logic in plain English and points users back to official Medicare and CMS sources.

Common Medicare-style planning intervals

The calculator defaults are based on common Medicare-style resupply planning intervals used by many DME suppliers. These are not a guarantee that a claim will be paid.

  • Mask cushions or nasal pillows: about every month.
  • Disposable filters: about every 2 weeks.
  • Tubing and mask frame: about every 3 months.
  • Headgear, chin strap, humidifier chamber, and washable filter: about every 6 months.
  • CPAP machine: often planned around a 5-year useful-life cycle.

Coverage still depends on documentation

CMS policy says replacement accessories can be reimbursable, but supplier records must support that the accessory replacement remains medically necessary and essential for effective use of the base equipment.

Medicare.gov also explains that after the Part B deductible, beneficiaries generally pay 20 percent of the Medicare-approved amount when the supplier accepts assignment.

Use official sources for coverage decisions, not a calculator. The most useful starting points are Medicare.gov CPAP coverage and the CMS PAP devices policy article.

Frequently asked questions

Does Medicare automatically pay for CPAP supplies on the schedule?

No. Timing is only one factor. Coverage depends on eligibility, medical need, documentation, supplier rules, and Medicare requirements.

What does the 20 percent estimate mean?

It reflects the common Medicare Part B coinsurance pattern after the deductible when assignment applies. It is only an estimate and not a bill.
